Fishing update 10/27

Early week rain raised the water table considerably. The Tuckaseegee for that matter is running high with both Duke Energy dams generating around the clock to lower the lake levels. The fishing productivity has returned though and as long as you have strong legs the Webster section will fish pretty well for you. Guided float trips are reporting excellent days on the water. Same is to be said for the Bryson City section.

The National Park waters, Upper Nantahala and smaller creeks of Jackson County are fishing incredibly well! Dry Droppers or Double Nymph rigs are showing the most productivity. Orange is the key color here for dryt flies and a jigged tungsten hares ear with a pink ice hot spot trailed by an atomic mayfly nymph have tricked plenty of fish on the wild water creeks. If you are fishing these creeks this weekend in the rain, expect a fantastic session of streamer or nymph fishing. The big browns will come out to gorge themselves on whatever is coming down the pipe. Simms' motto is to Forget the Forecast...great weekend to dry it! The leaf colors are certainly at their peak throughout the lower elevations and anyone making the trip in the next 5-7 days or so can still catch the foliage. Might want those thermals for Sunday morning wading!
